Qualcomm Stadium

The Chargers have called Qualcomm Stadium home since 1967. The stadium, which originally held 53,000 people, now accomodates 71,500 Charger fans. The stadium was originally called San Diego Stadium and San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium before taking on the name Qualcomm Stadium in 1997. It is currently named after the local telecommunication company which agreed to pay $18 million for the expansion project. Qualcomm holds rights to the naming of the stadium until 2017. The Chargers hosted Wild Card and Divisional Playoff games here in 1980, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, going 5-5 in all playoff games held at the stadium. With over a 40 year history, the City of San Diego and the Chargers organization are in the process of planning for a new stadium.
